Nio’s Firefly EV, fresh off its China debut in April 2025, is now making a significant splash across Europe. This entry-level brand, designed to capture the hearts of younger buyers, is rapidly expanding its reach. Deliveries of its compact hatchback have begun in Denmark and Greece, with pre-orders now open in Austria and Portugal. This move solidifies Nio’s aggressive overseas strategy.
Global Ambition, Local Flavors
The Firefly EV first launched in China with a competitive price point, falling between 119,800 and 125,800 yuan (about 16,960 to 17,810 USD). In the first half of 2025, Nio delivered an impressive 26,009 units of the Firefly in its home market. Building on this success, the brand previously introduced the Firefly EV to Norway, the Netherlands, and Belgium.
Now, the European expansion continues with deliveries starting in Denmark and Greece. In Denmark, the Firefly EV hatchback is priced from 209,900 to 229,900 Danish Kroner (32,680 to 35,800 USD). Over in Greece, the price tag ranges from 31,900 to 33,900 EUR (37,100 to 39,420 USD), depending on the trim.
For those in Austria and Portugal, the Firefly EV is available for pre-order at 30,900 to 32,490 EUR (35,930 to 37,780 USD). Early birds who place a pre-order can snag the entry-level Firefly EV for a special price of 29,900 EUR (34,770 USD) in these countries. To put things in perspective, the Firefly EV starts at 279,900 NOK (27,500 USD) in Norway and between 29,900 and 32,500 EUR (34,770 to 37,790 USD) in the Netherlands.
Interestingly, Norway enjoys the lowest price due to its non-EU status, avoiding the additional 21% import duty on Nio cars. Still, even with this advantage, the European price is around 40% higher than in China. Norway has seen 28 Firefly deliveries so far in 2025.
Designed for the Modern Driver
The Firefly EV is a compact hatchback that sports distinctive circular headlights, giving it a playful yet sophisticated look. It measures 4003mm long, 1781mm wide, and 1557mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,615mm. That makes it 145mm longer than a Mini Cooper, offering a bit more room for occupants and cargo.
Inside, the cabin features a modern and functional design. You will find a 13.2-inch floating touchscreen display, a 6-inch LCD instrument panel, and a 14-speaker sound system. The entry-level model comes standard with essential tech like a rearview camera and creature comforts such as heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. Step up to the top trim, and you will get premium features like a power tailgate, a sunroof, and power-adjustable front seats with ventilation and massage functions.
Under the hood, the Firefly EV is powered by a 105 kW (141 hp) e-motor, allowing it to hit 100 km/h in a respectable 8.2 seconds. Its 42.1 kWh battery pack promises a WLTP range of up to 330 km on a single charge, making it a capable everyday companion. Nio also plans to expand the Firefly EV’s reach even further, with right-hand drive versions headed for the UK, Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand next year. This global push underscores Nio’s ambition to make the Firefly a truly international player in the compact EV segment.
The Chinese EV Advantage
Nio’s aggressive European expansion with the Firefly EV highlights a growing trend among Chinese automakers. They are not just competing on price anymore. They are bringing innovative designs, thoughtful features, and robust engineering to the global stage. This push is fueled by a rapidly maturing domestic market, where competition is fierce and technological advancements happen at a blistering pace. Chinese EV makers, like Nio, are leveraging their experience to create vehicles that resonate with a wider audience, offering a compelling blend of performance, technology, and value. China’s EV market is a hotbed of innovation, and the Firefly EV is a prime example of the exciting products coming out of it.
