Huawei and Seres unveiled three Aito crossovers, the M5, M8, and M9, at the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, signaling a potential European launch for these dynamic vehicles. This exciting debut showcases Aito’s commitment to both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrains, offering a versatile lineup with compelling domestic prices ranging from 229,800 to 449,800 yuan (approximately 32,220 to 64,060 USD).
A Synergistic Partnership
Aito is the brainchild of a strong partnership between state-owned automaker Seres and tech giant Huawei. This collaboration, which began in 2021 with the Seres M5 SUV being sold in Huawei stores, proved so successful that it led to the creation of the high-end NEV brand Aito. It now stands as the flagship brand under Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) car sales network.
The current Aito lineup boasts four crossovers: the M5, M7, M8, and M9. While the M7 was notably absent from the Munich display, likely due to a new generation launching domestically later in September, its siblings made a strong impression. The outgoing first generation M7, by the way, is already making its way to overseas markets under the Seres brand.
Aito M5: The Agile Entry Point
The Aito M5, the brand’s entry-level SUV, first hit the Chinese market in 2022. It has seen minor refreshes since, keeping its appealing mid-size SUV proportions, low beltline, and sleek roof. Measuring 4785/1930/1625 mm with a 2,880 mm wheelbase, it strikes a balance between urban agility and interior space. A distinctive 192-line LiDAR unit on the roof highlights its advanced tech package. Step inside, and you will find a comfortable two-row seating arrangement. A dominant 15.6-inch floating central display handles infotainment, while the driver gets an LCD instrument panel and a two-spoke steering wheel. Practicality is also big, with two wireless charging pads and cup holders in the center tunnel.
Under the hood, the Aito M5 offers impressive powertrain diversity. The BEV model features a rear-axle-mounted electric motor delivering 200 kW (268 hp), juiced by an 83 kWh CATL LFP battery that provides a 602 km CLTC range. For those desiring extended range, the EREV variant couples a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine with either a 32 kWh or 40 kWh ternary NMC battery pack. The M5 EREV comes in RWD guise with 200 kW (268 hp) or a punchier 4WD option boasting 365 kW (489 hp). With prices from 229,800 to 249,800 yuan (32,220 to 35,020 USD), the M5 has been a consistent performer, with 21,064 units sold domestically from January to July 2025.
Aito M8: The Bestselling Big Brother
The Aito M8 has proven to be a powerhouse, becoming China’s bestselling full-size new energy SUV between April and July 2025. This model showcases Aito’s evolving design language, featuring sleek flush door handles and a striking LED strip connecting the headlights. The M8 is a substantial vehicle, measuring 5190/1999/1795 mm with a generous 3,105 mm wheelbase. Its interior caters to diverse needs, offering both five-seat (two rows) and six-seat (three rows) configurations. The cabin is a tech haven, dominated by a triple-screen setup: a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch main screen, and a 16-inch front passenger display. An augmented reality head-up display, projecting a massive 68-inch image, further elevates the driving experience.
Performance-wise, the Aito M8 EREV features a dual-motor 4WD system pushing out 392 kW (526 hp), complemented by a 1.5-liter turbocharged range extender. Battery options for the EREV include LFP or ternary NMC, with capacities of 37 kWh or 53.4 kWh, delivering CLTC ranges of 201 km and 310 km respectively. The all-electric M8 arrives with a 227 kW (304 hp) RWD variant, powered by a 100 kWh battery for a 705 km range, while the 4WD version boasts 387 kW (519 hp) and a 655 km range, offering exhilarating performance. Priced between 359,800 and 449,800 yuan (50,440 and 63,060 USD), the M8 has already garnered significant attention, with 56,748 units delivered in China from April to July 2025.
Aito M9: The Flagship of Sophistication
Topping the Aito lineup is the Aito M9, a flagship crossover that launched in China in December 2023. It commands attention with its distinctive gauntlet-shaped headlights and taillights. As the largest Aito model, it measures 5230/1999/1800 mm, with an impressive 3,110 mm wheelbase. A cutting-edge feature is its four LiDAR units, signaling advanced autonomous driving capabilities. Inside, the M9 offers flexible five- or six-seat layouts, all enjoying a luxurious and high-tech environment. The triple-screen setup mirrors the M8, featuring a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel, a 15.6-inch main screen, and a 16-inch front passenger monitor, ensuring all occupants are well-connected and entertained.
The Aito M9 EREV is equipped with a 52 kWh ternary NMC battery, providing a 290 km electric range (CLTC), alongside a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine. Its dual-motor 4WD system delivers a formidable 365 kW (489 hp). For pure electric enthusiasts, the BEV variant comes standard with a 100 kWh battery and two electric motors generating 390 kW (523 hp). The M9 is positioned at the premium end of the market, with prices ranging from 469,800 to 569,800 yuan (65,865 to 79,880 USD). Its strong presence in the market is evident, with 70,025 units delivered domestically from January to July 2025.
