New spy photos from China reveal what seems to be a wagon variant of the Avatr 06 out testing, suggesting Avatr, the premium electric vehicle brand backed by Changan, CATL, and Huawei, might be gearing up to broaden its offerings beyond sedans and crossovers. The prototype spotted sports an elongated roofline and an extended rear section, which screams wagon or shooting brake, even though Avatr has not officially confirmed any such plans.
The Avatr 06 up Close
The Avatr 06 currently holds its spot as the brand’s midsize contender, available in both extended-range (EREV) and pure electric (EV) versions. Its recently unveiled Elite trim slots neatly between the Pro and Max grades, with a price tag of 219,900 yuan, or about 30,800 USD, for the EREV, and 229,900 yuan, roughly 32,200 USD, for the EV, based on current exchange rates. This model packs a punch with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 4 intelligent driving system, a 192-line LiDAR sensor, and the HarmonySpace 5 intelligent cockpit, showcasing the latest in Avatr’s tech partnership with Huawei.
The Avatr 06 measures 4,855 mm long, 1,960 mm wide, and 1,450 mm high, with a wheelbase stretching 2,940 mm. Its exterior design proudly displays Avatr’s 2.0 design language, highlighted by dual-strip 7-shaped daytime running lights and a neat Halo interactive display mounted above the windshield. Step inside, and you are greeted by a massive 35.4-inch 4K panoramic screen and a 15.6-inch central display, all complemented by a 25-speaker Meridian audio system.
A Niche Market with Fierce Rivals
If this Avatr 06 wagon makes it to production, it will join an exclusive club of premium electric wagons in China. The competition includes Huawei’s Stelato S9T station wagon, which kicks off at 309,800 yuan (around 43,550 USD), the Zeekr 007 GT, starting from 199,900 yuan (or 28,100 USD), and the Audi E5 Sportback, which begins at 235,900 yuan (about 33,150 USD). This segment, though small, is clearly heating up with some ambitious players.
Performance Expectations and Future Outlook
It is likely the wagon variant will share its powertrain options with the sedan. This means we can expect the 252 kW (338 hp) pure electric version, boasting a 650 km CLTC range, and the 231 kW (310 hp) EREV model, offering a combined range of an impressive 1,190 km. The prototype remains heavily camouflaged, so Avatr has yet to drop any hints on a release timeline, keeping us on the edge of our seats. Keep an eye out as the Chinese EV market continues to expand and innovate, bringing exciting new options to the road.
