In the relentless world of Chinese electric vehicles, standing still means falling behind. Avatr is clearly not a brand that believes in standing still. They’ve just announced a potent round of upgrades for their range-extended (EREV) models, the 06, 07, and 12. These cars are getting beefier batteries from industry giant CATL and a serious intelligence boost with Huawei’s latest Qiankun ADS 4.0 advanced driving system.
The first of these updated models is slated to break cover at the Chengdu Auto Show in late August, a fitting stage for a brand that’s quickly gaining traction. What’s great for current owners is that they won’t be left out in the cold. Avatr confirmed on Weibo that existing cars can receive the new Huawei ADS 4.0 and HarmonyOS 5 via a simple over-the-air (OTA) update. It’s this kind of continuous improvement that makes the EV space so exciting.
Bigger Tanks, More Electric Miles
At the heart of these upgrades are the new CATL Freevoy Super Hybrid batteries. The bigger the battery, the more you can drive on pure, silent electric power before the gasoline range extender kicks in. Here’s how it breaks down for each model:
- Avatr 06: The sleek mid-size sedan will get a new 45 kWh battery, a significant jump from the current 31.7 kWh pack.
- Avatr 07: This mid-size SUV is getting a 52 kWh battery option in late September.
- Avatr 12: The flagship sedan will also receive a 52 kWh battery, paired with a rear lidar system, expected by mid-October.
While Avatr hasn’t released official CLTC range figures for these new EREV setups, the larger capacities promise a substantial increase in all-electric driving, making daily commutes and short trips completely gas-free for most users.
A Quick Look at the Lineup
For those unfamiliar with Avatr, it’s a premium EV brand backed by Changan, with Huawei providing the technological muscle and CATL supplying the batteries. This ‘Big Three’ collaboration is a powerful formula in the Chinese market.
The Avatr 06 is a stylish sedan priced from 209,900 to 279,900 yuan (about $28,800 to $38,400 USD). Its current EREV version already offers a respectable 230 km of electric range, so the new battery should push it comfortably further.
The Avatr 07 SUV, priced between 219,900 and 289,900 yuan ($30,200 to $39,800 USD), gives buyers a choice between two-wheel and four-wheel drive EREV versions. It’s a practical and tech-forward family hauler that’s about to get even more efficient.
The flagship Avatr 12, a stunning sedan launched in May 2025, currently boasts up to 245 km of electric range in its EREV form. The upcoming 52 kWh battery will extend its silent running capabilities, adding to its appeal as a luxury GT.
Full Speed Ahead
These upgrades come at a time of strong momentum for Avatr. In July, the 06, 07, and 12 were the brand’s top sellers, demonstrating their growing appeal. The company isn’t resting on its laurels, either. A new concept car is set to be unveiled at the Munich Motor Show, and a six-seat flagship SUV, co-developed with Huawei, is already in the pipeline for 2026. It’s clear Avatr is playing the long game, and these latest enhancements show they have the technology and partnerships to compete at the highest level.
