At the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, it’s easy to get lost in a sea of shiny new cars. But some vehicles just make you stop and stare. The Avatr Vision Xpectra is one of them. This isn’t just another concept car; it’s a rolling declaration of intent from a brand that’s quickly becoming a major force in the premium EV space. With its massive 5.8-meter-long body, a sleek glass cabin, and dramatic back-hinged doors, the Vision Xpectra is a glimpse into the future of Changan’s high-end brand.
The Power Trio Behind Avatr
To understand Avatr, you need to know the three powerhouses behind it. The brand is a joint venture between automaker Changan and battery giant CATL. And while it doesn’t hold any shares, tech behemoth Huawei acts as the brain, supplying key components and the operating system. This combination has proven potent. Since its first model hit the Chinese market in 2022, Avatr has delivered over 140,000 vehicles, with a lineup that now includes the 11 crossover, 12 liftback, 07 SUV, and 06 sedan. With plans to launch 17 new products by 2030, the Vision Xpectra serves as the design blueprint for what’s next.
A Design Called “The Energy Force”
The Vision Xpectra’s design language, called “The Energy Force,” is all about clean, powerful lines. Its body panels are smooth and uncluttered, flowing into wide, sculpted fenders that give it a muscular stance. The glass cabin arcs gracefully over the frame, creating an open, airy feel. Up front, signature two-story lights and a large air intake give it an aggressive face, topped off with a proud, bonnet-mounted badge.
One of the most striking features is what’s missing. There are no door handles, which adds to the seamless look. More dramatically, there are no B-pillars. This is a classic concept car move, as it allows for a huge, unobstructed opening when the back-hinged rear doors swing open. While not practical for production cars that need to meet safety standards, it creates an incredible sense of drama and makes entering the car an event in itself. At 5,843 mm long with a 3,450 mm wheelbase, this car has serious presence. For context, it’s 81 mm longer than a standard Rolls-Royce Phantom.
An Interior That Connects with You
Inside, the Vision Xpectra is just as futuristic. It’s a four-seat layout filled with ambient lighting and advanced tech. The centerpiece is an element on the console called “the Vortex.” Avatr describes this as an AI-powered object designed to form an “emotional connection” with the driver, using light to communicate and respond. Below it sits a transparent, wide display that keeps the dashboard feeling clean and unobstructed. The center tunnel is equally minimalist, featuring a single control element that responds to both touch and gestures.
While Avatr hasn’t released any powertrain details, its current production cars offer both fully electric (BEV) and range-extender (EREV) options. The Vision Xpectra itself won’t ever see a showroom floor. Instead, its job is to set the tone for the future of the Avatr brand. Based on this stunning concept, that future looks bold, ambitious, and very exciting.
