BYD E-Vali Earns Five-Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating

The BYD E-Vali, a commercial electric van that turned heads at IAA Transportation 2024 with its distinctive styling, recently scored a perfect five-star rating in the Euro NCAP safety evaluation. This is great news for BYD as they aim to challenge petrol-powered rivals in overseas markets, especially in Europe and Central Asia.

Safety First: A Deep Dive into the E-Vali Scores

Euro NCAP released the E-Vali’s safety test results in December 2025, evaluating it across three crucial segments: safe driving, crash avoidance, and post-crash safety. The van showed an impressive overall performance, leading to its top safety score.

For safe driving, the E-Vali hit 62%, thanks to a solid suite of features. These include speed assistance, driver monitoring systems, and essential driver and passenger airbags. It also sports a standard-fit seatbelt reminder system for both front seats and an adaptive cruise control system. It is clear that vehicle safety for modern EVs is paramount, as demonstrated in this outstanding result.

When it came to crash avoidance, the E-Vali truly shone, achieving a remarkable 91%. The van comes standard with an autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system for the European market, coupled with a front collision warning (FCW) system. Euro NCAP experts highlighted how effectively these systems reacted to pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles. Plus, the system even protects pedestrians at the rear of the van, adding an extra layer of security. Other advanced features like the lane support system (LSS) and speed assistance system further contribute to this top-tier performance. This focus on active safety systems is a trend seen across many newer EV offerings in the Chinese market, which consistently prove to be safer than gas cars in electromagnetic radiation tests.

Post-crash safety was evaluated at a strong 80%. The E-Vali includes a rescue sheet and guide, which are helpful for emergency services. While it doesn’t support the advanced e-Call feature, the van still demonstrates a high level of occupant protection.

More Than Just Safe: What Powers the BYD E-Vali?

The BYD E-Vali isn’t just about safety; it offers practicality and performance. This electric commercial van comes in two variants. Buyers can choose a 3.5-ton standard-wheelbase model, measuring 5995/2096/2780 mm with a 3,865 mm wheelbase. For those needing more space, there’s a long-wheelbase 4.25-ton variant, stretching to 6,995 mm with a 4,550 mm wheelbase. Its distinctive look, featuring a large windshield and a short front overhang, makes it easily recognizable. BYD continues to expand its global footprint, with production lines arriving in Hungary as EU expansion looms.

Powering the E-Vali is an 80.64 kWh BYD Blade Battery, providing a range of 220-250 km (WTLP). Charging is quick and convenient, going from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes. The electric motor delivers 150 kW (201 hp) of power, ensuring it has enough grunt for commercial tasks. Inside, you’ll find modern amenities including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a large touchscreen and physical buttons on the center console, blending modern tech with user-friendly design. It’s another example of how China EV market is surging with innovative models and aggressive strategies. BYD, in particular, is cementing its position with models like the Seal 06, which saw over 35,000 sales in November alone, further solidifying its presence in the SUV segment.)
