BYD is turning up the luxury dial with its premium Yangwang brand. The latest head-turner is the Yangwang U8L Dingshi Edition, a stretched and even more opulent version of the already formidable U8 SUV. With pre-sales in China opening on July 31st, this new model isn’t just about extra legroom. It’s a statement of ambition. The name “Dingshi” itself translates to an era of prosperity, and from the looks of it, BYD is taking that concept seriously.

More Than Just a Stretch
At first glance, the U8L Dingshi Edition maintains the powerful, boxy silhouette of the standard Yangwang U8. But the dimensions tell a different story. It’s stretched by 372 mm in length and gets a 200 mm longer wheelbase, transforming its road presence and, more importantly, its interior space. The rear-mounted spare tire is gone, giving the back a cleaner, more refined look. To top it off, the brand logo, an ancient Chinese character for “electricity,” is plated in 24K gold. It’s a bold touch that screams high-end.
Quad-Motor Power and Unmatched Capability
Under the skin, the U8L is expected to pack the same powerhouse powertrain as its sibling. It’s an EREV, or extended-range electric vehicle. This means four individual electric motors, one at each wheel, deliver a staggering combined output. A 2.0T gasoline engine acts as a generator, recharging the battery on the go to deliver a total range of around 1,000 km (CLTC). This setup provides instant electric torque and all-wheel-drive precision without any range anxiety.
This monster truck is built on BYD’s e⁴ (Yisifang) platform, which enables some truly mind-bending tricks. With individual motors at each corner, the U8L can perform a 360-degree tank turn on the spot. Its advanced DiSus-P suspension system not only ensures a plush ride but contributes to wild features like tire blowout stabilization and even an emergency flotation mode for crossing water. Piloting this giant should be a breeze thanks to BYD’s “God’s Eye” driver assistance system, which uses three lidars for advanced highway and city driving assists.
A Six-Seat Cabin Designed for Royalty
Inside is where the U8L Dingshi Edition truly sets itself apart. The cabin adopts a luxurious 2+2+2 six-seat layout, making every position a first-class experience. The entire interior is swathed in supple Nappa leather, available in rich black and brown or a striking purple and gray. The door trims feature real teak wood, polished and finished through a 27-step process, adding a touch of classic yachting style.
Upfront, the cockpit is a tech-lover’s dream with a 12.8-inch curved OLED central screen, a digital instrument cluster, and a screen for the front passenger. The steering wheel gets its own gold-plated logo, just in case you forgot you were in something special. There’s even a built-in refrigerator in the center console.
The real party is in the back. The second-row features independent zero-gravity seats, complete with their own control screens and electric leg rests. It’s less of a car and more of a private jet for the road, designed to coddle its occupants in absolute comfort. While the standard U8 already costs over a million yuan (about $150,000 USD), this longer, more luxurious version is poised to push BYD even deeper into the ultra-premium territory. We’ll be watching closely as more details emerge.
