On March 27, firefly responded on social media to a series of frequently asked user questions, covering battery swapping, product updates, and intelligent driver assistance.
The company said its battery swap service is progressing as planned. Internal testing is set to begin by the end of March, focusing on system validation and process optimization.
The first batch of “pioneer stations” will open to users in May, with a gradual rollout to additional cities thereafter.
On the product side, firefly confirmed it will not follow a traditional full-facelift cycle, instead adopting a “continuous iteration” approach.
A minor update is planned within the year, primarily focusing on incremental improvements across both hardware and software.
At the retail level, adjustments are already emerging. Some users reported that certain stores have stopped accepting custom orders and are only selling existing inventory, likely to make way for the updated version.
While the company has not officially confirmed a production halt, channel activity suggests a transition between model cycles is underway.
firefly launched in China in April last year, offering two variants priced at RMB 119,800–125,800 ($17,371–$18,241).
The brand later introduced several limited editions, including themed versions such as “Nomad Mellowd,” “Night Creatures,” and “Pegasus Rhapsody.”
In terms of market performance, firefly has accumulated over 40,000 users within its first year.
In February 2026, NIO’s three brands delivered a combined 20,797 units, with firefly contributing 2,657 units—still a modest share, but already reaching a certain scale within the entry-level EV segment.
Meanwhile, firefly is accelerating its overseas expansion. In early March, the brand officially launched in Thailand, marking its second right-hand-drive market after Singapore.
To date, firefly has entered around 10 countries and regions across Europe, including the Netherlands, Norway, and Belgium.
The company plans to expand its footprint to nearly 40 markets in the future.
