On April 3, General Motors disclosed its latest data, showing that its retail sales in China reached approximately 350,000 units in the first quarter of this year.
From a product mix perspective, GM is accelerating its restructuring. Buick has intensified its presence in the MPV segment, with its newly launched flagship new energy MPV exceeding 7,800 units in first-quarter sales.
Together with the GL8 series, it forms a portfolio spanning internal combustion and new energy segments.
Cadillac continues to show stable performance in the luxury segment. The XT5 recorded a 29% year-on-year increase, while the CT5 maintained steady output, indicating that demand for premium internal combustion vehicles still retains resilience.
SAIC-GM-Wuling remains the primary volume driver. The Wuling Xingguang 730 and Xingguang 560 achieved sales of over 19,000 and 15,000 units respectively, reinforcing their position in the entry-level and family vehicle segments.
In March, SAIC-GM-Wuling introduced the fourth model of the Bingo family, the Bingo Pro, completing the lineup alongside the existing Bingo, Bingo S, and Bingo Plus.
Subsequently, the fifth-generation Wuling Hongguang MINIEV was launched with four variants, priced at RMB 44,800–54,800 ($6,496–$7,946).
To date, cumulative sales of the Hongguang MINIEV family have exceeded 1.9 million units, maintaining its leadership in the segment for 67 consecutive months.
From a longer-term perspective, new energy vehicles have become the most critical growth driver for GM in China.
In 2025, its NEV sales in China approached 1 million units, up 22.6% year-on-year, accounting for more than half of its total sales.
On the technology front, GM is also expanding external partnerships.
The upcoming Baojun Huajing S, jointly developed by SAIC-GM-Wuling and Huawei, will be the first flagship model equipped with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 4 Pro intelligent driving system, scheduled to debut on April 7 and launch in the first half of the year.
At the upcoming Beijing Auto Show, GM plans to showcase multiple new models, including Cadillac’s all-electric flagship SUV, the Buick Electra E7, and the Baojun Huajing S, covering a wide range of segments.
