Get ready, electric vehicle fans! Leapmotor is pulling back the curtain on the exciting interior of its upcoming compact electric hatchback, the B05. Known as the Lafa 5 in its home market of China, this new EV is set to make a splash with its minimalist design and a clear focus on modern usability. It made its global debut at the 2025 Munich Motor Show, opening for blind pre-orders, and is gearing up for its official Chinese launch this October, with sales kicking off at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November.
Stepping Inside the B05
The moment you peer into the B05, you’ll notice a clean, single-tone, full-black cabin layout that feels both sophisticated and practical. The panoramic sunroof overhead floods the interior with natural light, creating an airy and open atmosphere. Leapmotor has really embraced a minimalist aesthetic here, ensuring that every element serves a purpose without cluttering the space.
The front seats are a real standout, offering a full recline function perfect for those moments you need to kick back and relax. The center console thoughtfully integrates a sleek, rectangular infotainment display, keeping all your essential controls within easy reach. Plus, a wireless charging pad means you can keep your devices juiced up without a tangle of cords. You’ll also appreciate the dashboard and door panels, which blend mixed materials for a uniform and polished look across the cabin.
Design and Dynamics that Impress
The B05 isn’t just about a pretty face and a comfortable interior. Its exterior design is equally compelling, featuring a closed front grille with an integrated light bar and a bold trapezoidal lower air intake. This car means business with active grille shutters (AGS), a front splitter, and aerodynamic air curtains, all working together to boost efficiency and give it a dynamic stance. The vehicle measures 4,430 mm long, 1,880 mm wide, and 1,520 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,735 mm, placing it squarely in the competitive compact hatchback segment.
Underneath, the B05 boasts a near 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution, promising a balanced and engaging driving experience. Its frameless doors add a touch of premium flair, while striking 19-inch wheels and a full-width LED taillight design complete the modern look. And when it comes to personalization, you’ll have six vibrant exterior colors to choose from, including Electric Yellow, Storm Grey, Starry Blue, Morgan Pink, Galaxy Silver, and Metallic Black.
Power and Practicality for the Daily Drive
When you hit the road, the Lafa 5 is powered by a single electric motor, model TZ180XS101, from CRRC Times Electric Drive, delivering a rated output of 55 kW and a peak output of a punchy 132 kW. This setup gives the car a top speed of 160 km/h, making it perfectly capable for city commutes and highway cruising. Power comes from a robust lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, a joint effort by Jiangsu Zhengli New Energy and Gotion High-Tech, with assembly handled by Lingxiao Energy Technology.
The B05 comfortably seats five passengers, and it’s packed with standard safety features. You’ll find an anti-lock braking system (ABS) from ZF Automotive Systems Shanghai, an event data recorder (EDR), and even optional ETC connectivity. Leapmotor clearly has its sights set on making a significant impact in the Chinese market, as the Lafa 5 will go head-to-head with established rivals like the BYD Dolphin, Geely Geometry Xingyuan, and the MG4 EV.
Looking ahead, a higher-performance variant, the B05 Ultra, is expected to roll out to Chinese customers in the first half of 2026, with plans to conquer overseas markets shortly after. It looks like Leapmotor is truly ready to stake its claim in the rapidly evolving Chinese EV market.
