Leapmotor’s upcoming compact hatchback, the B05, which is also called the Lafa 5 in the buzzing Chinese market, is gearing up for a big reveal. It has already kicked off blind pre-orders in China and is set to make its official debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November 2025. Chinese customers can expect deliveries to start in the fourth quarter of 2025. For those craving a bit more punch, a sportier B05 Ultra variant is on the horizon for 2026.
Inside the Lafa 5: Echoes of Elegance
Step inside the B05, and you will find a cabin that takes inspiration from Leapmotor’s B01 sedan. A large central touchscreen immediately grabs your attention, serving as the command center for almost everything. Complementing this is a compact digital instrument panel and a stylish dual-spoke steering wheel. Practical touches include a wireless charging pad in the center console. In terms of space, expect it to feel quite similar to the B01, offering a comfortable environment for daily commutes and weekend adventures.
Sporty Looks and Smart Tech on the Outside
On the outside, the Lafa 5 proudly wears Leapmotor’s design language, but it also carves out its own identity. A full-width LED light strip elegantly connects the headlights at the front, creating a modern and cohesive look, paired with a closed grille and a distinctive trapezoidal intake. Drivers will appreciate the choice of either a LiDAR-based driver assistance system or a vision-only setup, depending on the trim level. Available in six vibrant colors such as yellow, grey, blue, pink, silver, and black, there is a shade for every personality. The side profile boasts frameless doors and flush-fitting handles, which are not just for aesthetics but also help reduce aerodynamic drag. Large 19-inch wheels complete the sporty stance. At the rear, the Lafa 5 features a continuous taillight strip and a roof-mounted spoiler, adding to its athletic appeal. Dimensions measure in at 4,430 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, 1,520 mm in height, with a 2,735 mm wheelbase.
Under the Hood: LEAP 3.5 Platform and Powertrain Details
The Lafa 5 is built on Leapmotor’s advanced LEAP 3.5 modular platform, a versatile architecture also used for the B10 crossover. While full specifications are still under wraps, the compact hatchback is expected to share powertrain options with the B10. This means a base variant will likely feature a 132 kW motor paired with a 56.2 kWh LFP battery, offering a solid balance of performance and range. For those seeking more power, higher trims will probably come with a 160 kW motor and a larger 67.1 kWh LFP battery pack. These options underscore Leapmotor’s commitment to competitive EV technology in the bustling Chinese market.
Global Ambitions: Taking on Europe
Leapmotor is not just focused on China. Cao Lin, Senior Vice President at Leapmotor, confirmed the B05 is a key player in the company’s international expansion strategy. Following its global debut at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, the B05 is poised to challenge established compact battery-electric hatchbacks like the Volkswagen ID.3 in Europe and other international markets. This move highlights the growing confidence of Chinese EV manufacturers to compete on a global stage, bringing innovative design and advanced technology to a wider audience.
