Nio Breaks Records with 10,000+ Weekly Sales, Igniting Profitability Push

A Major Milestone for Nio

Nio has just hit a huge milestone, delivering over 10,000 vehicles per week for two consecutive weeks. This is a first for the company, signaling that its multi-brand strategy is starting to fire on all cylinders. The consistent performance shows strong momentum as Nio heads into the crucial final quarter of the year.

According to industry blogger Sun Shaojun, the impressive numbers are a team effort. In the third week of October, Nio’s main brand accounted for over 4,000 units, while its new sub-brands, Onvo and Firefly, made significant contributions. Onvo, aimed at the premium family market, moved more than 5,000 cars. Meanwhile, the budget-friendly Firefly brand delivered over 1,500 vehicles. This pattern held steady into the following week, proving it wasn’t just a fluke.

Onvo and a Glimpse of the Future

The Onvo L90 has been a standout performer, selling over 30,000 units in just 86 days and setting a new delivery record for a large pure electric SUV. It’s clear that Nio’s strategy of creating distinct brands for different market segments is resonating with Chinese consumers.

At the same time, production for the new ES8 flagship is ramping up. CEO William Li has ambitious plans, stating that monthly production will hit 15,000 units by December 2025. This production increase can’t come soon enough, as pre-orders for the 2025 model have already blown past the 40,000-unit capacity. Anyone ordering an ES8 today is looking at a wait time stretching into April 2026.

Looking even further ahead, Li teased the upcoming ES9, a new flagship SUV set for a 2026 release. It’s expected to be even larger than the current ES8, which already boasts a considerable footprint at 5280mm long with a 3130mm wheelbase.

The Road to Profitability

Nio’s recent sales figures are impressive, especially when you consider that the volume from just two weeks in October already surpassed the entire month’s sales from the previous year. September was also a record breaker, with 34,749 deliveries marking a 64% year-over-year jump.

However, the real goal for Nio this year is to achieve profitability in the fourth quarter. While selling 10,000 cars a week is a great start, it’s likely not enough to get there. To hit its financial targets and secure its position in the fierce Chinese EV sales race, Nio probably needs to be aiming for a monthly sales target closer to 50,000 units. It’s a challenging figure, but given the current momentum, it no longer seems out of reach.
