Nio’s been busy. The Chinese automaker just rolled out its 800,000th vehicle, a shiny new Onvo L90, marking a serious milestone just over seven years after their first EV hit the road. This full-size SUV is not just an anniversary marker, it’s poised to become a major sales driver when it officially launches on July 31st.
The Road to 800,000 Vehicles
It all started back on May 27, 2018, with the ES8 at the JAC facility. Nio, then a fresh face in the EV scene, took a solid two years and ten months to hit its first 100,000 cars, averaging about 96 vehicles a day. Fast forward to April 26, 2022, and they’d doubled that, hitting 200,000 with a daily production jump to 260 units. Talk about stepping on the accelerator!
Their production really ramped up when the second Nio-JAC plant in Hefei kicked off in September 2022. By December 12, 2022, they’d clocked 300,000 vehicles, pushing their daily output to 435 units. While 2023 didn’t see a specific announcement for the 400,000th car, Nio did acquire the F1 and F2 plants from JAC for a cool 3.16 billion yuan (that’s 441 million USD), showing their commitment to scaling up.
May 9, 2024, brought the 500,000th vehicle, though the daily average dipped slightly to 389 units. But then came the Onvo L60 fastback electric SUV on August 15, a mass-market model that really injected some octane into their numbers. On October 11 last year, the 600,000th Nio was delivered, rocketing the daily production rate to 645 units. Even with a slight dip to 471 units daily before the 700,000th car on May 11, 2025, Nio kept pushing.
Now, on July 24, Nio’s proudly announced its 800,000th vehicle. This isn’t just a number, it’s a testament to incredible growth, with an average daily production of 1,351 units in the last 74 days alone. That’s 100,000 vehicles in just over two months!

The Onvo L90, the 800,000th vehicle, is a full-size SUV that’s all about minimalist design and serious capability. Measuring in at 5145/1998/1766 mm with a stretched 3,110 mm wheelbase, it promises a spacious interior. You’ve got options for seating too, either a 2+2+3 or a 2+2+2 configuration across its three rows. Practicality? It’s got a 240-liter frunk and a 430-liter trunk for all your gear, plus three-zone climate control, a killer Onvo sound system, and a ceiling-mounted screen for rear passengers.
Under the skin, the L90 packs an 85 kWh battery, feeding power to Nio’s lightweight 79 kg flagship electric motor. In its standard setup, it pumps out 340 kW (456 hp), launching this SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in a swift 5.9 seconds. If you’re hungry for more, the 4WD variant unleashes 440 kW (590 hp) and shaves that sprint time down to a blistering 4.7 seconds. Range-wise, you’re looking at an impressive 570 to 605 km under CLTC conditions.
The Onvo L90 starts at 279,900 yuan, which is about 38,980 USD. Like other Nio vehicles, you can opt for the Battery as a Service (BaaS) subscription, which lets you knock 86,000 yuan (11,980 USD) off the upfront cost, bringing the price down to a more approachable 193,900 yuan (27,000 USD), plus an 899 yuan (125 USD) monthly subscription in China. With 600 units already at Onvo stores for test drives, Nio clearly has high hopes for the L90 to become their next big seller.
