Nissan’s New NX8 SUV: A Dual-Powertrain Challenger Aiming for the 200k RMB Market

Dongfeng Nissan is set to officially launch its latest SUV, the NX8, on April 8th. Following the strategic shift initiated at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, the NX8 represents the next major step in the brand’s electrification journey, building on the momentum of the N6 and N7 models.

At the heart of the NX8 is the “Tianyan Architecture 2.0,” a platform developed with global technology and tailored for the Chinese market. This architecture brings significant upgrades in power, electronics, space, and safety.

**Dual-Powertrain Flexibility**
The NX8 offers both pure electric (BEV) and range-extended (EREV) options. The BEV variant features an 800V high-voltage silicon carbide platform with 5C supercharging, capable of adding 300km of range in just 6 minutes. The EREV model pairs a 1.5T four-cylinder engine with a high-performance motor, achieving a comprehensive range of 1,450km and a fuel consumption of 4.51L/100km in depleted battery mode.

**Advanced Intelligence and Comfort**
The vehicle is powered by the NISSAN OS 2.0, integrated with AI large models to enhance voice interaction and smart cabin features. A standout technology is the “AI Anti-Motion Sickness 3.0” system, which uses algorithms to adjust vehicle dynamics and reduce motion sickness by over 80%. Inside, the cabin features a “Zero Gravity” seating system, a 63-inch AR-HUD, and a 25-speaker sound system, creating a premium mobile living space.

**Safety and Design**
Safety is bolstered by the “Cloud Shield Battery 2.0,” which features a 12-cell structural design for superior crush resistance. The body construction utilizes 2000MPa submarine-grade steel in the A-pillars, with high-strength steel accounting for over 70% of the frame.

Design-wise, the NX8 evolves Nissan’s V-motion language with a futuristic “Star Ring” lighting signature and a sleek, aerodynamic profile. Measuring 4,870/1,920/1,680mm with a 2,917mm wheelbase, the vehicle offers a spacious interior with an 83% space efficiency rate.

While the official pricing remains under wraps, market speculation suggests a range of 170,000 to 220,000 RMB (approx. $23,500 – $30,400 USD). By positioning itself against both mid-to-large and mid-size SUVs, the Nissan NX8 aims to leverage its unique blend of traditional comfort and cutting-edge intelligence to carve out a significant share of the competitive Chinese new energy vehicle market.
