FAW-Volkswagen has officially introduced its latest new energy vehicle series, the ID. AURA, with the ID. AURA T6 serving as the inaugural model. Positioned as a mid-size pure electric SUV, the vehicle features the advanced CEA electronic and electrical architecture and is equipped with the CoreTech intelligent driving assistance system. The model is set to make its public debut at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition on April 24.
The “AURA” series is designed to cover a diverse range of powertrains, including plug-in hybrids, extended-range electric vehicles, and pure electric models. According to the manufacturer, the name AURA stands for Advanced technology, User-centric design, Reliable German engineering, and All-access charging and service ecosystems. The “T6” designation signifies its role as a travel-oriented SUV (T) and its position as a “golden balance” choice (6) within the premium segment.
Technologically, the ID. AURA T6 utilizes a “central computing + zone control” architecture. Its high-end intelligent driving system, developed through a joint venture between Volkswagen Group and Horizon Robotics, incorporates hardware such as LiDAR and specialized intelligent driving indicators.
Volkswagen’s strategy for the Chinese market involves a significant expansion of its new energy lineup. In 2026 alone, the company plans to launch 13 new energy vehicles across its various joint ventures. This includes four models from the ID. AURA series under FAW-Volkswagen, six from SAIC Volkswagen, and three from Volkswagen Anhui. By 2029, the brand aims to have released over 30 new energy models to strengthen its competitive position in China.
