Wuling’s Hongguang Mini EV Hits 1.7 Million Units, and It’s Not Slowing Down

Wuling just announced a remarkable feat of manufacturing, its 1.7 millionth Hongguang Mini EV has officially rolled off the production line in China. To put that into perspective, the company claims one is sold every two minutes, a blistering pace that has cemented its position as the top-selling A00-class EV for 60 straight months. It’s not just a car, it’s a phenomenon.

The Mini EV’s journey has been nothing short of explosive. Launched just five years ago at the 2020 Chengdu Auto Show, its sales quickly ramped up. The car’s cumulative sales hit 554,000 in 2022, grew to 237,863 in 2023, and crossed 1.4 million units in 2024. Wuling hasn’t just built a car, it has built an unstoppable force in the world of compact urban mobility.

A Mini for Everyone

Wuling understands that one size doesn’t fit all. The Hongguang Mini EV lineup has expanded into a full family of vehicles catering to different tastes and needs. The series now includes the third-generation base model, a practical five-door variant, a playful Game Boy edition, a fun-loving Cabrio edition, and the timeless Classic edition. Wuling has also kept the brand fresh by collaborating with popular names like Yili Ranch, Eggy Party, and even the cartoon Boonie Bears. This strategy has turned an affordable pure electric vehicle into a cultural icon.

To make the deal even sweeter, Wuling rolled out replacement subsidies in July that can bring the starting price down to 36,800 yuan (about 5,120 USD). When combined with other national and local incentives, total savings can reach up to 20,000 yuan (2,780 USD), making it an almost irresistible offer for city dwellers.

The Practical Five-Door

The five-door variant, which hit the market in February, is a great example of how Wuling is evolving the platform. Priced from 48,000 yuan (6,200 USD), it offers more space and practicality while retaining a tiny footprint. It measures just 3256 mm long and weighs a nimble 780 kg. It’s the perfect size for navigating tight city streets and fitting into impossible parking spots.

Power comes from a rear-mounted 30 kW (40 hp) electric motor, which is plenty of punch for urban driving. It’s paired with a 16.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, delivering a top speed of 100 km/h and a CLTC range of 205 km. While that range won’t break any records, it’s more than enough for daily commuting. Plus, with DC fast charging, you can top up the battery from 30% to 80% in just 35 minutes. A full slow charge takes a reasonable 4.8 hours, perfect for overnight refills.
