The BYD Dolphin, an all-electric hatchback, has just smashed through the one million cumulative sales mark, making it the fastest vehicle of its kind in China to hit this impressive milestone. Zhang Zhuo, General Manager of BYD’s Ocean Series Sales Division, shared the exciting news.
First hitting the Chinese market in August 2021, the Dolphin kicked off BYD’s Ocean series with a splash. This car isn’t just a number on a sales chart, it’s a testament to how quickly and effectively Chinese automakers are dominating the EV landscape.
2025 BYD Dolphin: What’s Under the Hood?
The 2025 BYD Dolphin offers a tempting package with four trims, priced from 99,800 to 129,800 yuan (approximately 14,100 to 18,400 USD). Drivers can pick between CLTC cruising ranges of 420 km and 520 km, giving you options for city commutes or longer adventures.
Built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, the Dolphin is solid, with a body-in-white that boasts 78.2% high-strength steel. Its dimensions are 4125/1770/1570 mm, with a wheelbase of 2700 mm, offering a surprisingly spacious feel for a compact hatchback.
Underneath, you have two powertrain choices:
- A 70 kW (94 hp) and 180 Nm permanent magnet synchronous motor paired with a 44.928 kWh Blade (LFP) battery, delivering a 420 km range. It’ll get you from 0 to 50 km/h in a zippy 3.9 seconds.
- For those craving more punch, a 150 kW (201 hp) and 310 Nm permanent magnet synchronous motor is available with a larger 60.48 kWh Blade battery, extending the range to 520 km. This version shaves the 0 to 50 km/h acceleration time down to just 3.5 seconds.
When it’s time to top up, the Dolphin supports fast charging, zipping from 30% to 80% battery in just 30 minutes. This makes daily charging quick and convenient.
Tech and Comfort for the Daily Drive
Inside, the 2025 Dolphin keeps things modern and practical. You get a 5-inch digital instrument cluster for all your essential driving info, plus a choice between a 10.1-inch or 12.8-inch central control screen, depending on the trim. The infotainment system runs on BYD’s own DiLink operating system, which is known for its user-friendly interface.
For added convenience, top-of-the-line trims include a 50W wireless fast charging pad for your phone. The car isn’t just smart inside, it also comes equipped with seven advanced driving assistance functions as part of BYD’s DiPilot system. Features like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure assist make driving safer and less stressful.
