GAC has officially opened pre-orders for its Hyptec A800 flagship EREV sedan. This new model boasts a collaboration with Huawei for advanced Level 3 (L3) highway autonomous driving. The Hyptec A800 integrates cutting-edge technology, including Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 4.0 Ultra system and the HarmonySpace 5 intelligent cockpit system, promising a refined and high-tech driving experience.
Sleek Design and Aerodynamics
The Hyptec A800 showcases a design aesthetic common in today’s Chinese new energy vehicles. It features a streamlined, closed front fascia, continuous headlight and taillight strips, flush door handles, and a roof-mounted lidar unit. Its aerodynamic profile is impressive, with a drag coefficient of 0.275 Cd. Dimensions come in at 5130 mm long, 1966 mm wide, and 1500 mm tall, with a generous 3020 mm wheelbase, hinting at a spacious interior.
Innovative Lighting and Sensory Tech
One striking exterior feature is the GAC Hyptec A800’s 6,068 mm headlight strip, which flows seamlessly from the front and extends along the side, making it the longest on a production passenger vehicle. The car also introduces the world’s first three-sided flip-up headlights, which dynamically indicate the car’s driving mode: autonomous, normal, or parked. Enhancing visibility and safety, Huawei’s million-pixel intelligent projection headlights offer nine distinct lighting patterns.
The vehicle is equipped with a comprehensive suite of 34 sensors, including 4D millimeter-wave radar, high-definition cameras, and solid-state lidar. This robust sensor array supports the onboard Huawei Qiankun ADS 4.0 Ultra version, enabling L3 highway autonomous driving. Earlier road tests demonstrated the Hyptec A800’s capability to perform L3 autonomous driving at speeds up to 120 km/h, marking a significant milestone in China’s autonomous driving landscape.
Performance and Range
Under the hood, the Hyptec A800 features a range-extender powertrain with a 1.5T engine, delivering 118 kW (158 hp). It pairs with a 35.027 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, achieving a WLTC pure electric range of 178 km. While detailed electric motor specifications and comprehensive range figures are yet to be released, this setup promises efficient and reliable performance for daily commutes and longer journeys alike.
Luxurious and Intelligent Interior
Inside, the Hyptec A800 offers a modern, T-shaped cockpit layout. It features a 12.3-inch rectangular LCD instrument panel and a 15.6-inch central control screen. The minimalistic center console includes practical elements like dual cupholders and wireless charging pads. The infotainment system, powered by Huawei’s HarmonySpace 5, is complemented by active noise cancellation for a serene cabin experience. A 27-inch W-HUD projects essential information, and the cabin boasts the world’s longest interior ambient lighting strip, measuring an impressive 6,536 mm.
Color Options
Prospective buyers can choose from six stylish exterior paint options: Crystal Purple, Arctic White, Matte Moonlight Gray, Moonlight Gray, Obsidian Black, and Electric Silver.
