SAIC Volkswagen ID.ERA 9X: A New Large Extended-Range SUV Set for Pre-Sale

SAIC Volkswagen is set to open pre-sales for its upcoming large extended-range SUV, the ID.ERA 9X, on March 30, with an official market launch scheduled for April. Designed specifically to meet the preferences of the Chinese market, this new model features a spacious six-seat layout and is equipped with advanced LiDAR technology, powered by the Momenta R7 reinforcement learning world model.

In terms of exterior design, the ID.ERA 9X adopts a fresh, minimalist aesthetic. The front fascia is dominated by a full-width daytime running light strip, complemented by split-style headlights that give the vehicle a commanding presence. The lower front bumper incorporates an active grille shutter for improved aerodynamics.

Measuring 5207/1997/1810mm in length, width, and height, respectively, with a wheelbase of 3070mm, the ID.ERA 9X sits firmly in the large SUV segment. The side profile features a floating roof design, flush door handles, and multi-spoke alloy wheels. At the rear, the vehicle sports a continuous light bar, and the central Volkswagen logo is illuminated for a modern touch.

Inside, the cabin follows a clean, uncluttered design language. It features dual 15.6-inch displays and a newly designed minimalist steering wheel. Passengers can enjoy ambient lighting, a head-up display (HUD), and wireless mobile charging. The six-seat configuration includes a second row that can be reclined for maximum comfort, accompanied by a 21.4-inch ceiling-mounted entertainment screen.

The vehicle’s intelligent driving assistance system supports point-to-point navigation on highways and in urban environments, offering full-scenario coverage without the need for high-definition maps, thanks to the Momenta R7 model.

Under the hood, the ID.ERA 9X utilizes an EA211 engine as a range extender, producing a maximum power of 105 kW. It is paired with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, with the front motor delivering 160 kW and the rear motor 240 kW. The powertrain is supported by a 65.2 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, providing a pure electric range exceeding 400 km under CLTC conditions.
