Leapmotor A05 Electric Compact to Debut in May with Up to 510km Range

Leapmotor is set to expand its lineup with the upcoming A05, the second model in the brand’s A-series. According to recent reports, the new electric compact car is expected to make its official debut in May, with a market launch potentially following as early as June. The vehicle has already completed its filing with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), revealing key specifications including a maximum range of 510km.

The A05 adopts the established design language of the A-series, featuring a clean front fascia equipped with lens-style headlights. A functional cooling vent is positioned at the bottom, flanked by aerodynamic air curtains on both sides to improve efficiency.

In terms of dimensions, the Leapmotor A05 measures 4,200mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,560mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,605mm. This footprint positions it as a versatile option for urban commuting. The side profile reveals a streamlined silhouette typical of modern electric hatchbacks.

The rear of the vehicle continues the “smile” design motif for the taillights, a signature element of the series. It also features a generously sized tailgate, designed to facilitate easy loading and unloading of cargo.

Under the hood, the Leapmotor A05 will offer two powertrain configurations. Customers can choose between a 70kW or a 90kW electric motor. These motors are paired with battery capacities of 39.8kWh and 53kWh, providing a range of 405km and 510km, respectively. Furthermore, the A05 will offer an optional LiDAR setup, suggesting that high-level advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) will be available for this compact model.
