Tesla Unveils Global FSD Expansion Roadmap: China Approval Confirmed for Wider Rollout

Tesla has officially disclosed the global approval status and a comprehensive list of pending markets for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system during a recent industry conference. This move signals an accelerated rollout of the company’s advanced driver-assistance technology across international markets. Current data indicates that over 1.3 million Tesla vehicles worldwide are equipped with FSD, with the system already operational in North America, as well as parts of Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

The roadmap was revealed in a presentation by Tesla’s head of AI at the Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), providing a clear breakdown of the FSD deployment status and regulatory progress across various continents.

In North America, FSD is fully available, with owners in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico already utilizing the feature. South America is emerging as a key focus for expansion, with Chile and Colombia currently awaiting regulatory approval.

Europe represents the region with the most rapid recent progress. Following successful approvals in the Netherlands, Estonia, and Lithuania, regulatory processes are intensifying across the continent. Leveraging the common regulatory standards of the Netherlands Vehicle Authority, numerous EU and non-EU nations have initiated entry procedures. Over 20 EU member states—including Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Sweden—along with non-EU countries like the UK, Switzerland, Norway, and Ukraine, are on the pending approval list. Industry analysts suggest that the high level of regulatory interoperability in Europe could facilitate a large-scale rollout of FSD in the region.

The Middle East is also accelerating its deployment strategy, with Tesla having completed system adaptations and road testing tailored to local high temperatures, desert conditions, and unique traffic environments. Israel, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the UAE are currently in the approval phase, while Bahrain is being considered as a potential market.

In the Asia-Pacific market, China has already completed FSD approval and initiated a limited rollout. The feature was officially launched last year with version 13.0, though it was initially restricted to a small group of owners. Due to domestic data regulations, the feature’s widespread adoption was delayed, but this situation is expected to change. According to recent updates to Tesla’s Chinese owner’s manual and official website, the latest version 14.0 of FSD is set to be re-introduced in the domestic market soon. Tesla also plans to launch FSD in Japan by the end of 2026, with India, Malaysia, and Thailand also currently in the approval queue.

The African market has also appeared on the FSD expansion map for the first time, with Ethiopia currently serving as the only market on the continent advancing through the FSD approval process.

Tesla has reportedly established specialized verification teams worldwide to continuously optimize the FSD system by integrating local traffic laws and road characteristics. With road testing currently underway in multiple regions, the global deployment of Tesla’s FSD is expected to accelerate as regulatory approvals are finalized.
