A Bold Move to Spark Sales
Nio is turning to the dark side to give its Onvo L60 a fresh edge. The Onvo L60 Black Knight Edition has officially started deliveries in China, a limited-run, all-black fastback SUV designed to grab attention. This move comes as Nio looks to boost the L60’s appeal after it faced tough competition and fell short of initial sales expectations. The brand hopes a dose of exclusivity and aggressive styling will be enough to lure buyers back.
The original Onvo L60 launched in September 2024 as a direct challenger to the Tesla Model Y, with competitive pricing ranging from 206,900 to 255,900 yuan ($29,260 – $36,190 USD). Nio even offered a Battery as a Service (BaaS) plan, allowing customers to buy the car for just 149,900 yuan ($21,200 USD) and rent the battery. Despite the sharp pricing, Onvo sales struggled, with the L60 selling 68,707 units in its first year. In response, Nio launched an updated L60 in September 2025, and this Black Knight Edition is the latest effort to reignite interest.

What Makes the Black Knight Special?
The Black Knight’s appeal is all about its menacing aesthetic. The entire exterior is finished in black, including the trim, 20-inch rims, and badging. It gives the L60 a much more aggressive and premium feel from the outside.
Inside, the theme continues with a black interior contrasted by vibrant orange stitching and seatbelts, adding a touch of sporty personality. For a bit of extra practicality, the rear right passenger gets a convenient folding table. Underneath the dark exterior, the dimensions remain the same as the standard model, with a length of 4,828 mm, a width of 1,930 mm, and a height of 1,616 mm.
Under the Skin: Modern EV Tech
The Onvo L60 Black Knight comes standard with a 60.6 kWh LFP battery pack supplied by FinDreams, a subsidiary of the EV giant BYD. This battery powers a single rear-axle motor that produces a respectable 240 kW (322 hp), enabling the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a brisk 4.6 seconds.
Range is rated at 530 km under CLTC conditions. Thanks to its advanced 900V high-voltage architecture, the L60 can charge from 10% to 80% in just 25 minutes. And since it’s part of the Nio family, it retains one of the brand’s signature features, the ability to swap its entire battery pack in about three minutes at a Nio swap station.
Pricing and Limited Availability
The Onvo L60 Black Knight Edition is priced at 211,900 yuan ($29,965 USD), which is a 5,000 yuan ($710 USD) premium over the base model. With the BaaS battery rental plan, that price drops to an attractive 154,900 yuan ($21,900 USD). Exclusivity is part of the package, with only 666 units of this special edition being produced.
This isn’t Nio’s first time using this strategy. The company previously launched the Onvo L90 Black Knight Edition, a larger SUV limited to 999 units, showing that these special editions are becoming a key part of its playbook to keep its lineup fresh and exciting in China’s fast-moving market.
