Xpeng is making waves in the electric vehicle market, extending its P7+ sedan lineup with a new EREV variant. This comes after the successful introduction of EREV options for its X9 and G7 models, showcasing Xpeng’s commitment to offering diverse powertrain choices.
Xpeng P7+ EREV: Power and Range
The P7+ EREV is set to feature a 49.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, promising a CLTC pure electric range of 325 km. Drivers will appreciate this substantial electric-only capability for daily commutes and shorter journeys. While the overall comprehensive range remains under wraps, the initial figures are quite promising.
Under the hood, or rather, integrated into the powerful electric drive, the P7+ EREV will utilize a range-extender system. This system pairs a 1.5T engine, producing 110 kW (148 hp), with an electronic motor generating a robust 180 kW (241 hp). This combination allows for a spirited driving experience, topping out at a maximum speed of 200 km/h, proving that efficiency does not mean compromising on performance.
Design Enhancements and Dimensions
Visually, the P7+ EREV largely maintains the sleek and modern aesthetic of the current BEV model. However, Xpeng has subtly refined its proportions, extending the body length by 15 mm to 5071 mm. Other dimensions, including the 1937 mm width, 1512 mm height, and a generous 3000 mm wheelbase, remain unchanged, ensuring the P7+ retains its commanding road presence.
A thoughtful addition to the front fascia is an automatic air vent. This clever design element optimizes cooling for the 1.5T engine, contributing to both performance and longevity. At the rear, the taillight cluster receives an upgrade, now sporting a distinctive ring-shaped design. The Xpeng brand letter is elegantly embedded in the center, and a “P7+ power ultra” badge on the lower right corner proudly signifies the vehicle’s enhanced identity.
Updates to the P7+ BEV Model
The existing Xpeng P7+ BEV on the Chinese market is also getting a refresh. This updated version will offer two new battery capacities, 61.7 kWh and 74.9 kWh. These larger batteries will provide impressive pure electric ranges of 615 km, 590 km, 725 km, and 700 km, respectively. Official announcements will soon confirm more details for these exciting updates.
Xpeng’s Kunpeng Super Electric System
Xpeng’s foray into the EREV market was highlighted last November with the introduction of its Kunpeng super electric system. This innovative system is built on an 800V high-voltage silicon carbide platform. It integrates a 5C “AI” battery pack, a hybrid silicon carbide coaxial electric drive, and a sophisticated range extender that operates with remarkable quietness, boasting a noise level as low as 1 dB. This advanced system delivers a pure electric range of 430 km and an outstanding combined range of 1400 km. For those on the go, fast charging allows the battery to reach 80% in just 12 minutes, or gain 1 km of range per second, making range anxiety a thing of the past.
Xpeng continues to push boundaries, offering refined options across its vehicle lineup, and these latest P7+ variants are a testament to that dedication.
