Geely Galaxy M7 PHEV: A Closer Look at the Upcoming Plug-in Hybrid SUV

Geely Galaxy’s upcoming M7 plug-in hybrid five-seater SUV is generating quite a buzz, and details recently emerged from the Chinese MIIT. This new addition to the M series sports a design language familiar to fans of the brand and runs on a robust 1.5L plug-in hybrid system.

Design and Dimensions

Following in the footsteps of its larger sibling, the M9, the M7 features a striking through-type light strip at the front. Around back, the horizontal taillight design incorporates the “GEELY” English logo centrally, complemented by dual exhaust outlets at the bottom. Geely also opted to keep conventional door handles, a practical touch that some drivers appreciate.

Dimensionally, the Geely Galaxy M7 measures 4770 mm long, 1905 mm wide, and 1685 mm high, with a wheelbase stretching 2785 mm. Depending on the trim, curb weights come in at either 1870 kg or 1810 kg. To give you some perspective, the larger Geely Galaxy M9 measures 5205 mm in length, 1999 mm in width, 1800 mm in height, and has a longer 3030 mm wheelbase.

Performance and Power

Under the hood, the M7 relies on a plug-in hybrid system built around a 1.5L engine (BHE15-BFN) that churns out a maximum power of 82 kW (110 hp). The system is paired with a lithium iron phosphate battery pack, supplied by the CATL-Changan joint venture. This setup allows the M7 to reach a top speed of 180 km/h. While we know the engine details, specifics about the electric motor and its pure electric range are still under wraps. For those interested in the bigger picture, it is worth noting that some PHEVs are set to get 80 kWh batteries by next year.

Positioning in the Market

The M7 is poised to sit below the existing Geely Galaxy M9 in the lineup. The M9, a six-seater SUV, has been a strong performer, racking up 10,639 units sold in November and accumulating over 28,000 sales in less than three months since its launch. The M9 offers six trims in the Chinese market, with prices ranging from 173,800 to 238,800 yuan (approximately 24,600 to 33,700 USD). It comes with CLTC pure electric ranges of 100 km, 210 km, and 230 km, and boasts a maximum CLTC comprehensive range of 1,505 km.

Additional Features

The M7 offers a range of optional features to enhance your driving experience. Tire specifications include 235/55R18, 235/50R19, and 245/45R20. You can also opt for side, front, and center radars for improved safety and awareness, along with side and rear cameras. Aesthetic upgrades like a dual-color body and privacy glass are available, as is a side step decoration for added flair. These features demonstrate Geely’s commitment to offering a versatile and appealing package to consumers looking for a plug-in hybrid SUV. The Chinese market continues to push innovation, as even regulators are looking at new safety standards for door handles.
