BYD has officially unveiled the Seal 08, a mid-to-large flagship coupe that serves as the new crown jewel of the brand’s Ocean series. The vehicle has recently been included in the latest government catalog for new energy vehicle tax exemptions, revealing that the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version will offer an impressive pure electric range of up to 300 km (approx. 186 miles) under WLTC standards.
In terms of exterior design, the Seal 08 adopts a striking split headlight configuration. The wave-inspired daytime running lights pair with deep, dynamic main headlight clusters to create a bold face, while the taillights mirror this fluid wave aesthetic. The vehicle’s dimensions are substantial, measuring 5,150 mm (202.8 inches) in length, 1,999 mm (78.7 inches) in width, and 1,505 mm (59.3 inches) in height, with a generous 3,030 mm (119.3 inches) wheelbase. The side profile is defined by elegant, sweeping lines and semi-hidden door handles. Additionally, the roof integrates a LiDAR sensor for advanced driver assistance and a segmented panoramic sunroof.
The interior introduces the “Ocean Aesthetics 2.0” flagship cockpit, emphasizing luxury through extensive leather upholstery, premium trim pieces, and sophisticated ambient lighting. Chrome accents are tastefully applied to the steering wheel, air vents, speakers, and physical buttons. The center console is dominated by BYD’s signature floating square touchscreen, while the driver utilizes a column-mounted gear shifter. Rear passengers are treated to a first-class experience with a dedicated climate control screen, fold-out work tables, “boss” seat adjustment controls, and a wide, comfortable central armrest.
The Seal 08 will be available in both fully electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. The EV version is built on a high-performance 800V platform and features BYD’s second-generation Blade battery. With advanced flash-charging technology, the car can regain 400 km (248 miles) of range in just 5 minutes. The all-wheel-drive variant is expected to deliver a maximum power output exceeding 480 kW (644 hp), achieving a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in under 5 seconds.
The PHEV model utilizes a 1.5T hybrid system, featuring an engine with 115 kW (154 hp) and a high-output electric motor producing 200 kW (268 hp). It is equipped with a 45.36 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. According to official filings, the PHEV will offer two pure electric range options of 270 km (168 miles) and 300 km (186 miles) under WLTC conditions. The Seal 08 also comes packed with high-end chassis technology, including rear-wheel steering and the DiSus-A (Yunnian-A) intelligent air suspension system.
