BYD has officially published photos of its latest flagship D-class sedan, internally referred to as the Great Han (Da Han or Han 9). Lu Tian, General Manager of BYD’s Dynasty Network Sales Division, today shared official images on Weibo, showcasing a sedan sibling to the flagship SUV Great Tang with an elongated body and wheelbase.
Design
The exterior design shares stylistic DNA with the Han L, particularly at the front, where a horizontal trim piece connects the headlights across the leading edge of the hood.
In profile, the Great Han boasts a sleek, elongated silhouette. The roofline begins a descent from the B-pillar. At the rear, the vehicle features a full-width taillight assembly, while the rear bumper is expected to sport a design distinct from the Han L.
Interior and Technology
Inside, the cabin draws significant inspiration from the “Da Tang” model, featuring a familiar steering wheel design and a layout focused on premium comfort and functionality.
Powertrain and Performance
The new flagship will be available in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and pure electric (EV) configurations. It will benefit from BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and ultra-fast charging technology. According to preliminary information, the lineup will include two key variants:
The Great Han is widely expected to be the production model resulting from the “Naming campaign for BYD Dynasty’s first D-class flagship sedan” previously initiated by Lu Tian. The vehicle is expected for an official market launch in the third quarter of this year.
BYD maintained its market leadership with total sales of 376,990 units in May. Last March, BYD launched its megawatt flash charging, with the Han L and Tang L being the first models to support it. However, sales of the Han L have not been good, with its April sales in China just exceeding 1,000 units, falling 69.5% YoY.
