The 2026 Beijing International Auto Show officially kicked off on April 24, and JETTA made a significant splash by unveiling its brand-new concept car, the JETTA X, alongside a new all-electric sedan. This debut marks a pivotal moment for the brand as it accelerates its transition toward an electrified future.
Last year, the Volkswagen Group outlined a future strategy predicting that compact models will account for half of the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) market by 2030. Entry-level models priced around 100,000 RMB (approx. $13,800) are expected to be the primary growth drivers. In line with this, JETTA’s upcoming NEV lineup will focus on three core pillars: electrification, digitalization, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The new models are expected to compete directly with Chinese domestic brands by offering advanced digital cockpits and smart driving features at a highly competitive price point.
In January 2024, FAW-Volkswagen established Jetta Auto Technology Co., Ltd., granting the brand more autonomy in R&D and faster decision-making capabilities. This new entity is designed to develop intelligent electric vehicles tailored to local Chinese needs while leveraging Volkswagen’s global technical platforms and FAW’s robust supply chain. JETTA plans to launch five new models by 2028, four of which will be NEVs. The first production model is slated for a 2026 release, with a mid-term goal of reaching an annual production and sales volume of 400,000 units.
### New All-Electric Sedan: First Public Appearance
The new pure electric sedan appeared under heavy camouflage, but its sleek lines are already visible. It features a closed-off front grille and narrow, sharp headlights, suggesting a modern and stylish aesthetic. From the side, the car boasts semi-hidden door handles and a fastback silhouette, emphasizing its sporty character. The rear is expected to feature a through-type light bar with an illuminated JETTA logo at the center.
### JETTA X Concept: A Glimpse into the Future
The JETTA X concept car represents the brand’s official entry into the electric era. It introduces the “Modern Robust” design language, breaking away from the traditional styling of JETTA’s internal combustion engine (ICE) lineup. The concept features a bold, rugged front end with high-tech daytime running lights and sharp, aggressive lines that set the tone for future production models.
The front design de-emphasizes the traditional grille, using decorative elements to connect the light clusters, while the front bumper incorporates “X” elements to highlight its crossover inspiration. The vehicle also features a floating roof, semi-hidden door handles, and flared wheel arches for a more muscular stance. At the rear, the through-type taillights mirror the design of the headlights, flanking a glowing JETTA emblem.
The JETTA X is more than just a design study; it is a strategic move to capture the entry-level NEV segment. As the Volkswagen Group anticipates that affordable EVs priced near 100,000 RMB (approx. $13,800) will dominate the market, JETTA is positioning itself to be the group’s primary contender in this high-volume sector.
