MG07 Electric Coupe Spied: A New $28,000 Rival for the Xiaomi SU7 Set to Debut Soon

Spy shots of the upcoming MG07 engineering mule have recently surfaced, offering a first look at MG’s latest move in its aggressive transition toward electric mobility. As the brand’s first dedicated electric coupe, the MG07 is built on SAIC’s next-generation NEV (New Energy Vehicle) platform. It is positioned to target the youth-oriented, sporty electric vehicle market with a price point expected to be under 200,000 RMB (approximately $27,800). The model is set to rival the popular Xiaomi SU7 and is expected to make its official debut in the first half of this year.

Based on the leaked images, the MG07 features a sleek, closed front grille design. It appears to incorporate a “star-ring” through-type light strip that wraps around the front fascia, creating a sharp and modern visual signature. The aggressive, shovel-style front lip adds a layer of sportiness to the stance. Notably, the car utilizes a “clamshell” hood design, suggesting the presence of a large front trunk (frunk). Furthermore, a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor is clearly visible, indicating that the MG07 will likely be the brand’s first sedan to feature advanced semi-autonomous driving capabilities.

From the side profile, the MG07 adopts the classic fastback silhouette typical of high-performance electric coupes. It boasts “golden proportions” with a short front overhang and a long wheelbase, creating a smooth, downward-sloping roofline that stretches from the A-pillar to the tail. This design effectively eliminates the bulky look of traditional three-box sedans. Despite the aggressive roofline, the design seems to prioritize rear headroom to ensure daily practicality and comfort. Additional premium features include frameless doors and rear privacy glass.

At the rear, the MG07 is equipped with an integrated through-type taillight system that sits flush with the upper edge of the trunk. This, combined with the wide-body stance and the sloping liftgate, creates a low-slung, planted visual effect. The hatchback-style electric tailgate is clearly functional, balancing aesthetic appeal with cargo-loading convenience. We will continue to monitor and provide updates as more technical specifications of the MG07 become available.
