VW ID. Buzz Gets Major Update: AWD Pro 4Motion, Physical Buttons, and Enhanced Towing Capacity

Volkswagen has officially released images of the updated ID. Buzz, showcasing a series of refinements and performance upgrades for the electric van. Slated for a summer launch, the latest iteration focuses on improving user experience and expanding the lineup’s capabilities.

The exterior maintains its iconic retro-futuristic design, but the interior sees significant functional improvements. Most notably, the multi-function steering wheel has been updated with physical buttons, replacing the previous touch-sensitive controls that had been a point of criticism. The vehicle also introduces the latest Innovision infotainment system, which features a streamlined menu logic and a new integrated app store for media streaming, parking, charging, and gaming.

New technical features include a dedicated one-pedal driving mode, allowing the van to come to a complete stop using only regenerative braking when the driver lifts off the accelerator. Additionally, the ID. Buzz now supports V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) functionality, enabling it to act as a mobile power bank to charge external devices like electric bicycles via a specialized adapter. On the safety front, an optional Travel Assist system with traffic light recognition has been added.

In terms of performance, a new ID. Buzz Pro 4Motion variant has been introduced. This dual-motor all-wheel-drive version delivers a maximum output of 250 kW (approx. 335 hp), a power level previously exclusive to the high-performance GTX model. Battery configurations are tied to the wheelbase: short-wheelbase models feature a 79 kWh battery, while long-wheelbase versions are equipped with a larger 86 kWh pack.

Towing capacity has also been significantly enhanced. The AWD version can now tow up to 1,800 kg (approx. 3,968 lbs) for the standard model—a 600 kg increase over the rear-wheel-drive version. Due to its increased weight, the long-wheelbase AWD model has a slightly lower towing limit of 1,600 kg (approx. 3,527 lbs).
