Bugatti has officially unveiled the W16 Mistral “Fly Bug,” the latest bespoke masterpiece commissioned by a prominent American collector. This vehicle joins an exclusive “insect-themed” collection that already includes the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse “Hellbug,” the Chiron “Hellbee,” and the Divo “Lady Bug.”
Drawing inspiration from the dragonfly, the car features a bespoke “Dragonfly Blue” exterior finish. This specialized paint shifts between deep blue and turquoise depending on the lighting and viewing angle, mimicking the iridescent quality of dragonfly wings. The bodywork is further accented by an intricate oval dot pattern that transitions from sparse to dense as it moves from the front to the rear of the vehicle. Notably, the Bugatti emblem has been seamlessly integrated into these oval motifs—a testament to the brand’s complex craftsmanship. The wheels have also been custom-painted to complement the overall aesthetic.
Inside, the cabin mirrors the exterior’s color palette and introduces a new level of material innovation. Bugatti has utilized a layered technique, applying leather in geometric patterns over Alcantara to create a striking 3D visual effect. This marks the first time Bugatti has incorporated such intricate patterns into the door panels and armrests, showcasing the engineering team’s dedication to bespoke detail.
Under the hood, the W16 Mistral Fly Bug retains the legendary 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine. It produces a staggering 1,600 horsepower and 1,180 lb-ft (1,600 Nm) of torque, channeled through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission to an advanced all-wheel-drive system.
