SAIC MG has officially announced that its new all-electric SUV, the MG 4X, will start blind orders on May 11.
The MG 4X is positioned as an A-segment all-electric SUV, with dimensions of 4500mm in length, 1849mm in width, and 1621/1627mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2735mm. The vehicle is a full size larger than the MG4, earning it the nickname “MG4 XL” from some observers.
In terms of exterior design, the new car continues the design language of the MG4 while incorporating detail upgrades. The front features a new full-width LED light strip connecting the headlights on both sides, paired with an illuminated “MG” logo, further enhancing the vehicle’s tech-forward look and brand recognition.
The core differentiating strength of the MG 4X lies in its semi-solid-state battery technology, which was previously only available in models priced between 300k and 400k RMB(~44k-59k $), now applied for the first time in a mass-market vehicle. All entry-level versions of the MG 4X come standard with a semi-solid-state battery, offering a range starting from 510 km. Meanwhile, customers can also opt for a version equipped with a CATL battery, achieving a maximum range of 610 km.
Intelligent features are also a key focus of the MG 4X. The cockpit is equipped with a 10.25-inch instrument screen and a 15.6-inch central control screen, powered by the Doubao 3.0 large model. It also supports four-zone voice recognition and seamless OPPO car-mobile connectivity.
For intelligent driving, the new car is equipped with Horizon’s Boyi large model, supporting high-speed NOA and multi-scenario automated parking functions.
It is worth noting that the core capability of the Boyi large model lies in handling multi-vehicle interactive decision-making scenarios, such as unprotected left turns and navigating congested sections with cut-ins. This is more challenging than perception-only algorithms. This L2+ system was jointly developed by MG and Horizon.
In terms of comfort features, the entry-level version of the MG 4X comes standard with heated, ventilated, memory, and 8-point massage functions for the front seats. The passenger seat is also equipped with a “queen’s seat” featuring 4-way adjustable leg rests.
Entering 2026, the 150k RMB(~22k $)-level compact all-electric SUV segment has seen the arrival of several highly competitive new models, such as the Xpeng MONA L03, BYD’s new Yuan Plus, and Geely Galaxy Starship 7. The MG 4X will face considerable market competition after its launch.
With the launch of the MG 4X, the MG4 family will officially achieve a dual-track product matrix with both “sedan + SUV” offerings.
Furthermore, 2026 is also a “big product year” for MG.
After the MG 4X, another new coupe model, the MG 07, is expected to debut in the second quarter. The new car targets the sub-200k RMB(~29k $) market and will be the first to feature Momenta’s R7 reinforcement learning world model, along with a LiDAR sensor.
Data shows that since September last year, MG brand sales have continued to rise. Except for February of this year, which included the Spring Festival holiday, monthly sales have remained above 13k units. As of April 30, MG’s cumulative sales for this year have exceeded 53k units.
