Xiaomi’s New “SKYNOMAD” Sub-Brand: Rugged EREV SUV Spied Testing

New spy shots have emerged of Xiaomi’s upcoming extended-range electric (EREV) SUV, internally codenamed “Kunlun.” Reports suggest this model will spearhead a new sub-brand dubbed “SKYNOMAD,” with a potential lineup of two to three models slated for release between 2026 and 2027. The first vehicle is expected to debut between the second half and the end of 2026.

Unlike the sleek, aerodynamic profile of the Xiaomi SU7 and the upcoming YU7, this new SUV adopts a bold, boxy, and rugged design language, projecting a substantial and commanding presence. The front fascia features a closed-off grille design paired with a distinct split headlight layout. Notably, a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor is visible, indicating the inclusion of an advanced intelligent driver-assistance system.

Spy shots reveal two variations, with one featuring a raised roof section designed to accommodate a roof tent. In terms of scale, the new SUV appears significantly larger than the YU7, with an estimated length exceeding 5,200 mm. At the rear, the vehicle sports vertically arranged taillights, likely connected by a dual-strip light bar, and a roof-integrated spoiler with a high-mounted brake light. The tailgate design suggests a practical “clamshell” (split) opening mechanism, with the license plate housing positioned on the lower section.

Under the hood, the “Kunlun” series is expected to utilize a high-capacity battery EREV powertrain, rumored to feature a battery pack exceeding 70 kWh, offering an estimated pure electric range of 400 to 500 kilometers. Advanced chassis technologies, such as rear-wheel steering and air suspension, are also anticipated to be part of the package.

By venturing into the EREV segment, Xiaomi is clearly pivoting to target the flagship family SUV market, positioning this new model to compete directly with established players like the Li Auto L9.
